Mark S Butler

Working as a Technical Officer at BioCifer since March 2021, Mark is involved with all facets of the business: research, development, and strategic planning.
Mark has extensive R&D experience in research in both industrial and academic settings. Since finishing a postdoc at Arizona State University, he has led teams focusing on natural product-derived drug development at Griffith University/Astra Zeneca (1994-1999), Centre for Natural Product Research (CNPR)/GSK (Singapore, 1999-2002) and MerLion Pharmaceuticals (Singapore, 2002-2009). From 2009-2019, he worked at the University of Queensland (UQ), primarily focusing on anti-infective and inflammation/Parkinson’s Disease, and later as the Bid Manager for an AMR-focused CRC bid. In addition to working with BioCifer, he is also a consultant for the WHO on antibiotic drug development and an Adjunct Associate Professor at UQ.
Mark has a BSc (Hons) and PhD (Natural Product Chemistry) from The University of Melbourne (1993), and an MBA from UQ (2017). He has published over 118 papers and was a Clarivate Analytics Highly Cited Researcher in 2016 and 2017.
